The Passion begins when Jesus came
to Jerusalem for the pilgrimage feast of
Passover. The Temple was thronged with
pilgrims from all over Galilee and Judea, as well
as those from Alexandria, Rome, Cappadocia, and
Cyrene, modern-day Libya. First century AD
historian Josephus wrote that during one Passover
there were 255,600 sacrifices in the Temple.
That makes a very crowded city -- with full
employment for tour guides!
